Manchester Social Chess Club

Wednesdays, 6pm, The Waldorf, 12 Gore St, Manchester M1 3AQ (near Piccadilly)

Manchester Social Chess Club (MSCC) is a different type of Manchester chess club. We meet on Wednesdays in The Waldorf, 12 Gore St, Manchester M1 3AQ (near Piccadilly).

The club aims to promote chess in Manchester and give Manchester chess enthusiasts a friendly place to meet, have fun and learn.

Chess sets (and clocks for players who want them) are supplied. Players play informal games with or without clocks at a speed that suits them. (This has ranged from slow play without clocks, to 2 minutes for all moves.)

Stronger players are happy to provide informal coaching to developing players. We’ll frequently look over rated games that one of the players has recently played.

As befits a ‘social’ chess club, we also often play light-hearted chess variants for teams, notably bughouse (exchange chess) and ‘hand and brain’.

Please see our other pages for further details about the club and why you should come along!

Huge thanks to the Crown & Anchor!
They have made us feel very welcome since we started.
